Farewell to the Wheelchair Foundation Nevada Chapter: A Heartfelt Goodbye and a Legacy of Mobility
We are sad and happy at the same time that the Wheelchair Foundation Nevada Chapter is closing its doors in May, after many years of giving the gift of mobility to over 11,500 Nevada residents in need. As the director of the Nevada Chapter and my wife at my side for many of those years it leaves me with a broken heart to leave a foundation that helps millions of people around the world. The Behring family and the staff of the Wheelchair Foundation, my brother Don Williams who had the idea getting the Nevada Chapter going and sponsoring thousands of wheelchairs with the help of the Wheelchair Foundation matching grants.
If you googled wheelchairs in Nevada we were number one for years. Politian’s, business owner’s, friends and family there when needed to unload containers and shuffling wheelchairs around the state of Nevada. What I’m mostly proud of is this chapter has 99% volunteer help. Office work, deliveries, organizing events, public relations. David Behring, thank you for giving me so many wonderful years as your state director now my life and goals were meant.
Thank you Rotary clubs, Lions, Kiwanis, other nonprofits for your help in every way. If you are reading this please continue partnering with the Wheelchair Foundation in some way it’s the best nonprofit worldwide. From myself, John Williams and Ivy Williams, the hundreds of Nevada Chapter volunteers we thank you again.

Community Mourns the Loss of Sara Marie: The Beloved Capuchin
Monkey and Wheelchair Foundation Mascot
Las Vegas Nevada – In a heartfelt tribute to a remarkable companion and advocate, the Nevada Wheelchair Foundation is mourning the loss of Sara Marie, a 32-year-old capuchin monkey who dedicated her life to bringing joy and support to children and adults with permanent walking disabilities. Sara Marie passed away peacefully after a brave battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration.
Sara Marie was not just a mascot; she was a symbol of hope and resilience. Over the years, she played a pivotal role in delivering hundreds of wheelchairs to those in need, often personally presenting them at community events, hospitals, and charity programs. Her gentle spirit and infectious smile brought warmth to every interaction, making her an instant favorite among the thousands of individuals she touched.
Community leaders, fire department personnel, and healthcare professionals all fondly recall the joy Sara Marie brought to their events. “Every time she arrived, you could see the smiles light up the faces of children and adults alike,” said Dr. Emily, a local pediatrician. “Her presence was a reminder that even in the toughest times, there is always room for happiness.”
Sara Marie’s ability to connect with people transcended her role as a helper; she became a cherished member of the community. Her playful antics and loving nature made her a source of comfort and joy, especially for those facing difficult challenges in their lives. “She had a unique way of making everyone feel special,” reflected Allen Sarac, a volunteer at the foundation, and owner of Little Sara-Marie. “The impact she had on our community is immeasurable.”
As news of Sara Marie’s passing spread, tributes poured in from all corners of Nevada. Social media was flooded with stories and pictures of the capuchin monkey alongside her friends and supporters. “Sara Marie was more than a mascot; she was family,” wrote one local parent. “She brought hope during some of the darkest times, and we are heartbroken to see her go.”
“We want to ensure her legacy lives on,” said Nevada Foundation director John Williams. “Sara Marie taught us the power of kindness, and we will strive to carry that message forward.”
While the community grapples with the loss of this beloved monkey, they take comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to inspire acts of kindness and compassion. Sara Marie may have left this world, but her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. As the Nevada Wheelchair Foundation embarks on this new chapter, they invite everyone to join them in celebrating the incredible life of Sara Marie, a true hero in her own right.
